Russian Hackers Targeting US Military Contractors
The AP has reported that Russian hacking collective Fancy Bear has been successfully targeting US military contractors in a phishing scheme.
The attacks targeted
…at least 87 people working on militarized drones, missiles, rockets, stealth fighter jets, cloud-computing platforms or other sensitive activities…
The phishing attacks were perpetrated against both personal and corporate e-mail accounts of targeted individuals. As many as 40% of the targets fell for the phishing scam and clicked on compromised links, highlighting again the critical role of user education in a cybersecurity context. It is unknown what or how much information may have been stolen.
Fancy Bear is best known for hacking the DNC during the 2016 US Election, using tactics similar to those described in this latest attack.
